Ajith next after MGR

ajith next after mgr

MG Ramachandran is one actor who knew how to win the hearts of his fans and maintained it till his last breath. Even today, MGR stills manages to have a strong fans association; after nearly two and half decades of his death.

Noted actor and journalist Cho Ramasamy seems to have said that one actor who enjoys such a huge fan following today something on the lines of MGR is Ajith. He however points out that MGR still remains a phenomenon and people worship him. Ajith Kumar has won many hearts with his humbleness and behaving like an ordinary man.

He never jumps the line and prefers to stand behind serpentine queues to cast his vote, unlike other stars. The one reason for his fan following is that he is a role model as a gentleman citizen, and has constantly refused to cash in on his stardom. Ajith Kumar even stunned last year by disbanding his fans association after he found that some of the group members used his name for getting political mileage.

Rajinikanth sings his first Hindi song for rahman

kochadaiyan

Kochadaiyaan’, directed by Indian icon Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya, is a bilingual that will have versions in Tamil and Hindi. And for the first time ever, the Tamil superstar has sung for the Hindi version, that is a translation of the Tamil one. While the lyrics in Tamil are written by the prolific and celebrated Vairamuthu, the Hindi translation has been done by Irshad Kamil.

The song is about Rajini’s beliefs and philosophies. For instance, one of his beliefs is that man loves land, but ultimately land grabs him, as he becomes greedy once he gets land. Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed the music for the song. Like the rest of India, Rahman too is a Rajini fan and shares his beliefs. While Rajini had sung a Tamil song earlier in one of his films, this would be the first time he is singing in Hindi. It is said that the song is more on the lines of a recitation.

Sudeep is Bangalore Times Most Desirable Man 2012

sudeep most desirable men of Bangalore

You have voted and chosen the Bangalore Times Most Desirable Men of 2012. We talk to Sudeep, who tops the list.

How does it feel to be voted the most desirable man of 2012? Well, I’d be more happy if I got to know who all find me desirable (laughs). But on a serious note, I am not just being modest when I say, I am feeling blessed.

What about you do you think makes you desirable? I wouldn’t know, and I wouldn’t want to know. Let it remain a mystery.

Besides looks, what else do you think makes a man desirable? I think it has to do with the way a man behaves, even when one is at the peak of one’s success.

Do you find yourself obesessing about the way you look? How many times a day do you look in the mirror? The mirror is any actor’s best friend.

You’re reaching 40, yet you can give any newcomer a run for his money. What’s the secret? I’m glad you didn’t say a run for their women (laughs). Basically, all the newcomers love me. I guess they want me to be around for a bit longer. We hang out together. With them around, I can never be my actual age.

How do you handle female adulation? I am aware that there are a lot of female fans and audiences for my films, and I am thankful for that. It feels good to know that your work is being appreciated.

You have been known to experiment with your looks for your films. Anything new coming up? There is very little done and lots more to be achieved.

Personally, who is more handsome than you in the Kannada film industry? In my opinion, the late Dr Vishnuvardhan was the most handsome star that the Kannada film industry has seen.

Nagaraja Cholan MA MLA

Synopsis: Nagaraja Cholan (Sathyaraj) rises from an MLA to the post of deputy chief minister and goes about increasing his wealth. Problems arise when he tries to help a Swedish company set up a factory in a tribal area.

Cast: Manivannan, Seeman, Raghu Manivannan

Direction: Manivannan

Genre: Drama

Duration: 2 hours 25 minutes

Review: If you are familiar with Nagaraja Cholan as a ruthless politician, who rose from being Ammavasai in 'Amaidhipadai', this movie will definitely disappoint you. Though Cholan appears scheming, with a perennial smile on his face, his resurrection after almost 20 years ends up a failed attempt to build on the character. He comes out more like a comic here as compared to the earlier movie.

The movie is a pale shadow of the original, except for the few scenes involving Cholan and his trusted aide Manimaran (Manivannan). The duo share great on-screen chemistry, providing several witty one-liners and scenes.

The movie takes potshots at the contemporary political situation in Tamil Nadu. References to how new parties are formed by just swapping the order of colours on a flag do strike a cord. But in most cases, these scenes just stick out like a sore thumb as they don't add to the story. The movie also talks about the lack of awareness among the people on environment and how politicians work hand-in-hand with foreign firms to sell our land. It is at this point the crisis of the movie comes up with tribals protesting against their land being taken away, evoking images of the Chipko movement.

The movie leaves several questions unanswered, starting with how Cholan came back to life after he was shot down by his son in the previous flick. We are told that he has a son, Gangaikondaan (Raghu Manivannan), but in 'Amaidhipadai' he never had a legitimate one! Manivannan, who has written the movie, could have given it more thought rather than just borrowing the best scenes from 'Amaidhipadai'.

Seeman as a social activist comes out with a decent performance. Raghu's character is meant to be a chip of the old block, but comes out tame. The background score by James Vasanth is sometimes to overpowering, drowning out the dialogues, and the music is far from noteworthy.

The movie works in parts but with 'Amaidhipadai' playing in your head, 'Nagaraja Cholan MA MLA' comes nowhere close to it.

ARYA-NAYAN WEDDING ON THE CARDS

Finally, it's true. Or, so it seems. Following many 'link-up' rumours between Arya and Nayanthara, the hot jodi in Kollywood now, here comes the shocker — they're getting married! Don't believe us? Well, initially, we too didn't. But this invitation (see pic) that has been circulated widely among the media and film fraternity gives plenty of room for speculation on these lines.

It says — Arya weds Nayanthara - and has a silhouette picture of the pair, that is currently acting in a film titled Raja Rani. The invite also mentions the date and time of the 'marriage' but leaves out details about the venue. Apart from their current flick, the pair that acted in the hit film Boss Engira Baskaran will also be sharing screen space in the yet-to-be-titled Ajith's project with director Vishnuvardhan.

Arya had stated that he found it difficult to stay single. He said, "I like to be with somebody, but it's difficult to find the right one… I'm looking for the one." Well, with this invitation out in the open, it could well mean that his search has finally come to an end. There's never any telling the real from the reel these days, is there!

Easier to impress Rajinikanth than my wife: Dhanush

Actor Dhanush says it is easier to impress his father-in-law and superstar Rajinikanth than his wife Aishwarya. Dhanush got married in 2004 to actor Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya.

"It was easy for me to convince Rajnikanth sir. Just be a nice human being and he will like you. The good part was he liked my work, films," Dhanush said at the promotional event of his Bollywood debut film 'Raanjhanna'.

The actor said it is not easy to impress his wife Aishwarya and he is still trying hard. "I think it is not easy to impress a girl especially with the looks that I have. It is quite tough," Dhanush said.

He looks quite excited about his upcoming film 'Raanjhanna' which marks his acting debut in Hindi films. The film carries a scene, in which Dhanush is seen taking a bullet between his teeth, which reminds one of a similar scene in a Rajinikanth film. When asked about the same, Dhanush says, "He is a great actor. We all worship him. People are influenced by him…I did not do that scene thinking about his style…I will make sure I don't repeat it." Dhanush, who is making his debut in Bollywood with the film, says he would love to do more films. "I would choose a film on the basis of its priority.

I will see if it excites and challenges me to do something different. I am waiting for this film to release. But somewhere, I have decided I would do one Tamil and one Hindi film." It was the script that made Dhanush choose 'Raanjhanna' as his debut film here. "I did not see this film as Tamil, Hindi or Telugu. I did it because I liked it," he said. However, a shift to Hindi was a challenge for Dhanush. "I was not that much comfortable with the language… it was kind of tough. It was not easy for me to do it but things fell into place and it all happened," the actor said. The film will release on June 24 and also stars Abhay Deol. It has been directed by Anand L Rai.

Soodhu Kavvuum movie review

Movie : Soodhu Kavvuum

Director :Nalan Kumarasamy

Cast :Vijay Sethupathi, Sanchita Shetty

soodhu kavvum movie

Take a bow Nalan Kumarasamy , for taking the road less travelled. Soodhu Kavvum is apathbreaker, adifferent kind of film that has not been seen in Tamil cinema.

Nalan Kumarasamy is a daring director to make a black comedy at atime when Tamil cinema is being bombarded by slapstick comedies. Soodhu Kavvum works big time due to smart writing and perfect characterisation. The humour is part of the story and not thrust in as characterisation is real.

The most solid of the new breed actors Vijay Sethupathy as the 40 plus anti-hero and all new actors in supporting cast are apt and they make the film crackle. The packaging and shot composition of the film is also done in a different style, which has not been seen before.

Das (Vijay Sethupathy) is an ageing 40 plus guy who makes a living out of kidnapping! He is guided by his girlfriend (Sanchita Shetty) who appears in his dreams and only he can see (fab idea) and acts as his conscience keeper and confidant. He meets up with three out of work guys and free-loaders and they form a team who kidnap only middle-class people! One day they land up kidnapping a ministers son and the fun begins.

The film has some of the best conceptualised scenes. The pick of the lot is when Das and his gang kidnap a bank managers daughter and the candid and absolutely chilled out way they do it. The climax is a scream. If we say more it will act as spoilers.

Vijay Sethupathy steals the show with his shaggy salt and pepper beard and a paunch. His body language and dialogue delivery makes the character come alive and the audiences will root for him. SanchitaShetty as his girlfriend is smashing and delivers some one-liners with perfect lip sync. All the other newcomers like Simhaa, Ashok Selvan and RJ Ramesh are fantastic and have equal footage.

If you are looking for minus points it is the songs which act as speedbreakers and post interval the film slows down. The songs should have been only used for the promotions. However cant blame Nalan when he has a music director like Santhosh Narayan and a peppy number like Kasu Panam and picturised like music videos.

Final verdict on Soodhu Kavvum is that it is a gutsy great film. It is one of the best films to have emerged out of Kollywood in a long, long time. The treatment is different and the dialogues hilarious making it an enjoyable fun ride.

Ethir Neechal - Movie Review

Ethir Neechal is ajolly good fun ride, with never a dull moment. Sivakarthikeyan has arrived as the `middle-class` hero with a terrific sense of comedy timing and a style of his own.

ethir neechal movie review

The film works big time due to Sivakarthikeyans impeccable sense of comedy timing and the right comedy and emotional mix of debutant director Durai Senthilkumar. The first half is a laugh riot, while second half has a neat message with a lot of sentiments thrown in.

The story is wafer thin and it is mostly the situations, one-liners and the tempo that makes it racy at 2 hrs 9 minutes. What`s in a name?A lot especially if it is lovingly bestowed on you by your parents.

Our hero (Sivakarthikeyan) was named by his parents as Kunjithapatham after their favourite deity. The weird sounding name makes him the butt of ridicule among his classmates in school, college and finally at work. No girl wants to marry him with such a bizzare name!

On the advice of his best friend Peter (Satish) he meets an astrologer (Manobala) who specialises in giving fancy names and bringing luck with change of name! Kunjithapatham now becomes modern and stylish with a new name, Harish and his luck changes .Harish meets Geeta (PriyaAnand) a school teacher and falls for her.

But soon Geetafinds out that Harishis not his real name and he lacks self confidence. She motivates him that there is nothing in aname and it is self confidence that matters in life. He joins the Chennai Marathon to prove himself and coaches under Valli (Nandita), a former national athlete. Does he succeed to swim against the tide ?

It is an out and out Sivakarthikeyan film and he is superb. He shines in comedy as well as emotional scenes. Priya Anand has nothing much to do, but is adequate for the role. Satish (Marinafame) who comes as hero`s friend is simply too good and brings the house down with his one-liners.

Dhanushand Nayanthara appear in a Kuthu number which has been well shot and is fast paced. The comedy scenes has been worked out well without indulging in cheap slapstick jokes or vulgar dialogues. Anirudh`s songs and background score are peppy and fits in with the mood. Boomi Enna Suthudhe.." is the pick of the lot.

On the downside after a comedy riot in the first half, post interval the film becomes too serious and emotional. However If laughter is the best medicine, try out Ethir Neechal, the complete summer family entertainer.
